How to Install Windows on a Computer or Laptop
If your computer is running slow over time, reinstalling Windows can help improve performance. You will need a Windows installation disk (CD or bootable USB) to proceed.
Step-by-Step Guide to Install Windows
Step 1: Access BIOS Setup
1️⃣ Turn off your computer (or restart it).
2️⃣ As the computer starts, press F2, ESC, or DEL (depending on your computer brand) to enter BIOS settings.
Step 2: Choose Boot Device
1️⃣ In the BIOS setup, look for the Boot options.
2️⃣ If you are using a Windows CD/DVD, select CD/DVD-ROM as the boot device.
3️⃣ If you're using a bootable USB drive, select Removable Devices or USB as the boot device.
Step 3: Exit BIOS and Start Windows Setup
1️⃣ After selecting the correct boot device, exit BIOS and save the changes.
2️⃣ The computer will prompt you to press any key to boot from CD/DVD/USB.
3️⃣ Press any key to proceed, and the Windows setup screen will appear.
Step 4: Begin the Installation
1️⃣ Select your language and click Next.
2️⃣ Click Install Now to start the installation process.
Step 5: Choose Installation Type
1️⃣ You will be prompted to choose between Upgrade or Custom Install.
- Select Custom Install to perform a clean installation.
2️⃣ Do not install Windows on Partition 1, as it may be your system partition.
3️⃣ Select Partition 3 (or any empty partition where you want to install Windows).
4️⃣ Format the selected partition and click Next. This will erase the data on that partition, so be sure to back up your files if needed.
Step 6: Windows Installation Process
1️⃣ Express Settings will be selected by default, but you can customize your settings if desired.
2️⃣ Sign in with your Microsoft account or create a local user account.
3️⃣ The system will now start installing Windows. This can take around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the system.
Step 7: Final Setup
1️⃣ Once the installation is complete, the computer will restart.
2️⃣ Remove the installation CD/USB before restarting.
3️⃣ Windows will continue to set up, installing necessary drivers and applications.
Step 8: Complete the Setup
1️⃣ Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your system settings.
2️⃣ After completing the setup, you will have a fresh installation of Windows running on your computer.
Additional Tips
- Backup important data before reinstalling Windows, as formatting will erase all the files on the selected partition.
- Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the version of Windows you're installing.
